Default Is there a DELL complaints number that bypasses Malasya

I collegue wanted a new computer and based on my comments didn't want VISTA

He looked around and found nothing available with XP. The only one we found was Dell. Sure he could have gone to a local assembler but would have cost 25 to 50% more than a smilarly equipped Dell.

He ordered a quite upmarket one with separate Graphics card and duly waited and waited an waited. Finally he got in touch and it seemed that although his account had been debited the order was never logged.

He complained but nothing except the order waas then logged. He spoke to a supervisor but he brushed it aside

Then the person whom he dealt with had the cheek to email wanting a glowing report from him.

I must admit this is the exception to most peoples experience with Dell and 6 weeks later it "may" arrive next week.

However I feel they should offer some compensation to him but nothing seems to get you past the Malasian operators

Any thoughts at all

It doesn't surprise me that Dell phone support comes via Malaysia. Dell like to keep their costs to a minimum.

If he paid by credit card get the CC company to reverse it and cancel the order.

Get one built by a local company without an os, there will still be the odd place around with winxp still for sale if you search hard enough.
Example - WinXP Pro OEM: http://www.qmb.co.nz/c.aspx?c=Softwa...are&ss=Windows

I have a couple of friends that have had no end of problems with the much needed tech support from Malaysia.

Nonsense. A very small bit more perhaps. You gave to compare like with like.

What brand components are in it? Then price it using exactly that.
They often have the cheap nasty brand bits in them you know.

Quality is far more important, then you don't have the need to be calling for support later.

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/defa...=my&l=en&s=gen - The number is 1800-88-0301 from Malaysia.

If dialing from New Zealand, it would be 00 60 1800 88 0301.

Cheers

VoIP or phone cards may be the answer.

Think you are missing the point James. They want to speak to a call centre/complaint desk that is NOT located in Malaysia. Also, why would someone want to pay for a international call to access the free support that comes with their computer? If you call the NZ Dell number, it gets transfered to the Malaysian call centre without any cost to you.

Ah, I see. I mistook that Tony's colleague bought a computer from Malaysia and now wants to speak to someone from Malaysia.

Cheers

I doubt this will be of any help but Dell have (had) an 0800 number.

Only problem was you wound up in India.

Now, if you have extreme patience they can be most helpful.

In my case I was given the number I needed to ring in New Zealand for help.

It just so happened to be the 0800 number I rang to get the Help Line in India in the first place!

Talk about a Circular Reference!

In the meantime a Dell Inspiron 4000 sits in the corner of the room, The one for redundant PC’s.

Anyone trying to deal with Dell have my sympathy.
