Typically you cannot increase the signal without another device (linear amp comes to mind) and then you can probably get a signal to the northern hemisphere if it's strong enough.
Are you sure you are not wearing an aluminum foil hat?
All kidding aside: if there's a local problem...like a microwave signal blanking you out, or you live underneath the umbrella of a radar dish from the gvt, then you indeed do not have a defective unit.
If you're being denied at least line-of-sight, short distance connections, then the unit is truly defective.
In possible doubt here that it might be defective at the range you are trying to use.......was it EVER recognized by the puter? It has to show on post, I think with an error message that there's no keyboard attached.
Try this, at a range you KNOW it fails, try a reboot and see what error message you get.
