Default Dell Closes Customer Support Forum Because Of Too Many Complaints

It seems that Dell has closed it's Customer Support Forum after too many people posted complaints on it, citing everything from dud hardware, bad after sales servicing and awful customer service.

I get those glossy newspaper inserts that show their wonderous goods at fantastic prices, but so many people kept warning me to stay away from them.

Yes buy a nice local built PC from your friendly local PC shop. Deal with only one place for the build, sale, after sale support etc.
I've been telling people that for years.......

I couldn't agree with your more. The customer gets what they pay for and Dell are cheaper for a very good reason.

Yes, BUT certain places have been known to go under.

My uncle listened to that advice and went with PC-Co first up. They went bust and he eventually bought a second one from a retailer in Birkenhead, Auckland. This retailer also went belly up about 4 months later.

He's getting me to build him his current one, Im just hoping that I dont follow suit with his track-record with PC-Suppliers

actually i have to disagree to a certain extent here.
a lot of systems that i have fixed over the years that have all been custom built, either small shop(eg local shop) or bigger shop (eg PcCo), 90% are crap pc's. most of them have support problems and the shops charge a fortune for anything to be fixed. thats not even includeing the fly by nighters.

dispite the flaws of being a supermarket pc's most dells etc are usually fairly well designed and setup and frankly better value for money (with a couple of noteable exceptions eg restore disks nightmares).

as far as support goes i would rate DELL better than most tho any big company can be a nightmare to deal with.

I would think the amount of complaints would be relative to the amount of buisness these guys do..
These small pc shops would have a return rate with not much of a support policy, Face it Dell or Apple or any other big brand finds it a lot cheaper running a forum and letting owners solve problems for other owners then relying on phone support...
first place of call if i have a problem is the apple forum, and most are purely operator error on my behalf..

Horses for courses, Only an informed purchaser is garenteed of buying quality or getting value for money, The rest either get lucky and buy from someone that takes pride in what they sell or get stiffed.

And its a battle uphill trying to tell someone they need to spend an extra $100 for a quality psu, they will simply go down the road and buy the cheaper system.

Most people think if it has a P4,256mb of ram and a decent size harddrive then its all good....and don't want to know abouit motherboards, quality components, psu's,cases or highly regarded brands.....and sure as hell aren't prepared to pay for it.

People that go shopping for crap generally get exactly what they set out for......

Meh, I think the level of complaints would have to do with how good their service is, if they made sure people were sorted their would be nothing to complain about.

don't think that will ever happen. i know people that have complained for the sake of complaining, then there are those who try to get free stuff by complaining about problems that don't exist and even a few who complain to try get a person in trouble/fired because of a personal b*tch with them.

even if you make everthing PERFECT, someone will complain that its perfect.
