Reinstall windows OR Format HDD

Hi All,

Just bought a new CPU and will be giving away the old one to a relative. Should I just reinstall windows XP or should I refomat the HDD and reinstall XP to clear all files in the system? Your thoughts?

Format - Reinstall, set it up afresh with them as the users.

if its only a new cpu then why bother reinstalling at all ?????

i fail to see the need for a reinstall/format.

I interpretet "new CPU" as a new computer. Hence the suggestion.

if they had bought a new pc i'm sure they would have said so ;-)

I took it same as Godfather, so:
If its a new PC / Upgrade box - then Format the HDD
If its only a CPU Upgrade then dont bother, its a waste of time unless you have other reasons to do so.

I think we need more infomation.

when you say CPU do you mean the chip thats about 1 inch square?
or do you mean the full system, hard drive, CD rom and all that.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant whether to format and reinstall the old CPU that I am giving away. Any suggestions where I can get more info on formating. Remembered an article on pcworld on formating but couldn't find it now.
