Which version of Winamp is the best? Is it the latest 5.11 or as some people have told me 2.95? I want something that can still do all the things, but doesn't cripple my old computer like Windows Media Player 10 does. Cheers :)

Some people who have had probs with Winamp, say 2.9 is better.

5.11 + is good, if you have an Ipod. As it supports the Ipod plugin. Which lets u transfer from an Ipod to the hdd, and vice versa.

It's up to 5.111 atm.

You need more ram.

Doesn't matter what media player you run, your system doesn't have enough resorces to even run XP let alone have anything spare to run apps.

I remember a discussion on slashdot (late last year I think) where it was determined that winamp 5 in classic mode was the least resource intensive media player for windows. Even foobar took up more RAM than winamp.

What are the specs on this old computer? My friend was using winamp 2.9 for ages on a pII with 64mb of RAM under win2k no problems.

Winamp 5 is very cool. I like it a lot better than WMP because you can get a plugin to do pretty much anything, and its not so cluttered. Plus the media library is quite cool, I'm not so sure if 2.9 has it; It is incredibly handy if you have a large music collection.

Ripping the cd content without running installer on the cd will keep the Sony poison out....

I use PowerDVD because I paid the extra to get 5.1 suround sound....
